Our standard prices include a complimentary meal with an apéritif and wine on the evening of your arrival, a welcome pack of essentials to get you started, bedlinen and towels, electricity, firewood and tourist tax. There are no hidden extras.

La Maison de Réflexion has been converted from a former forge in which cartwheels and handtools were made. It is decorated and furnished to a high standard and has been awarded 3-stars by the French national tourist authorities whose representative, when concluding his assessment visit, kindly told us that it had been a wonderful start to his Monday morning!

The accommodation, which is on one level, benefits from a wood-burning stove and electric radiators. It sleeps up to three adults or two adults with one child and a baby in a cot comfortably and comprises two bedrooms, one double and one single, an integral lounge-diner with TV (French networks only), DVD and CD players and WiFi internet access and a good-sized shower room with WC and a hairdryer. A cot and high chair are also available upon request

The American-style kitchen is well-equipped with oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, an iron and ironing board. A clothes washing service is also available.

The property has its own enclosed, south-facing, lawned garden suitable for children and dogs with views of the surrounding countryside and is equipped with garden furniture and a barbeque ideal for enjoying the views and the beautiful sunsets on our warm summer evenings.

We aim to have the gîte ready for you by 3.00pm on the day of your arrival. You are welcome to telephone us on the day to enquire whether it will be ready earlier.

La Maison de Réflexion is a "No Smoking" gîte.

Here in our typical Auvergnat village, the welcome is warm, the air is clear, the water from local springs and the area rich in flora, fauna and birdlife. It is an ideal haven for relaxing, walking,"getting away from it all" and recharging your batteries - a perfect place for a "slow" holiday in this beautiful and unspoiled area of France. 

Our commune is 25 kms across, has an area of over 11000 acres, 57 hamlets, a population of 6 people per square kilometre, varies in altitude from 250 to 1232 metres and is criss-crossed by 300 kilometres of pathways - a walkers' and birdwatchers' paradise.

And if you prefer more organised activities, there are water activities, an outdoor heated swimming pool, health spa, pedalos, mini-golf and tennis and squash courts available for hire around the lake at nearby St Rémy sur Durolle (11 kms) as well as restaurants and cafes. The town itself has a selection of essential shops, bars, restaurants and cafes and boasts a small "very French" Sunday morning market. 

And if during your stay you don't want to cook for yourself or go out to a restaurant, we are happy to cater for you. Once we have agreed the menu and the number of courses you would like, you can dine with us, or enjoy your meal in the gite.

All of the seasons here are wonderful in their individual way. Spring, the awakening after the winter, with its myriad of different greens and the wild flowers; summer for its warmth and fullness; autumn for the changing colours of the trees. We are closed from November to April inclusive.
