La Monèze Basse-, is situated in an oasis of peace, between the mountains and the sea, and is surrounded by vineyards. Discover the history of the Cathar Country, with its numerous castles, abbeys, medieval villages and the walled city of Carcassonne. Taste the rich flavours of the area, for instance, by enjoying a good wine tasting. Our property is located at the crossroads of some of the largest wine regions of France, among which most famously: the Corbières, Minervois, Razès, Limoux (Blanquette de Limoux), Malpère and Cabardès regions. There many more local delicacies to be enjoyed, such as a 'cassoulet', some 'foie gras', 'magret de canard', truffles, or something sweeter, perhaps, like the nougat of Limoux. Daily markets, such as the one held medieval town of Mirepoix allow for a discovery and tasting of all these local treasures. There are also seasonal fairs, like the winterly truffle fairs, the famous 'Toques et Clochers' in spring time (to taste the Blanquette and wines of Limoux), etc.
Given the central location of our domain, you can engage in numerous sports activities in a beautiful, natural setting:
kayak (in Alet les Bains), rafting (in Axat), mountain biking (in Limoux), fishing (Limoux), skiing (Ax-les-Thermes and Mont d'Olmes), speleology (Caves of Agazou and Cabrespine) and the numerous marked walks across the Upper Valley of the river Aude, some of which start at La Monèze. In the surrounding area (max 30 minutes by car): climbing, swimming, golf, hiking, mountain biking, cycling, horseback riding, sailing, (float ) flying, etc.
