The gîte is located in Parc Naturel Regional Marais du Contentin just outside the village of Sainteny, about 10 kilometres from Carentan.
The beautiful nature reserve offers endless possibilities for walking and cycling, but we also live very centrally for a visit to the D-Day beaches ( Utah Omaha and Gold), the militairy cemetries ( Colleville sur Mer) and museums of D-Day (in St Mère Eglise or the Memorial museum Omaha Beach).
The beaches on the Atlantic side are also worthwhile a visit. Due to the large tide changes they are different every time with endless wide beaches at low tide. Manche and Calvados are known for the mussels and oysters, the oyster and mussel beds are clearly visible at low tide.
Within an hour drive there are a lot of nice and interesting places to visit, like Bayeux, Coutances, Arromanches, Cherbourg etc. local markets and castles. There are also beautiful gardens in de surrounding.
Mont Saint Michel is about an hour's drive from Sainteny (about 85km)
In the gîte you will find more information about the area.
In Sainteny (2,5km) you will find the bakery, a butchery and a small supermarket.
For daily shopping you can go to Carentan (10km) with various supermarkets and on Monday morning the weekly market.
There is a train station in Carantan from where you can be in Paris within 3 hours.
