On the cultural front, there's plenty to discover !
The medieval town of Sommières, on the River Vidourle, is a 5-minute walk from your holiday home. There are plenty of restaurants and terraces, and in the narrow streets you'll find all sorts of pleasant shops. You can do all your shopping here and you'll find a whole range of services, including several supermarkets, a bakery and a butcher's shop.
On Saturday mornings, there is a large Provencal market and a large flea market. Cycle path 2 minutes from home to Nîmes or Quissac.
The location is ideal for exploring this varied region. The Mediterranean coast and the rugged mountains of the Cévennes are within easy reach. At the foot of the Cévennes are characteristic towns such as Sauve and Anduze.
The sandy beaches of La Grande Motte and Le Grau du Roi are 35kms away.
A visit to the fortified town of Aigues-Mortes, with its impressive fortified towers, is well worthwhile and can be combined with an excursion to the Camargue.
Beautiful cities such as Montpellier, with its lively, breathtaking shops. And don't forget to visit Nîmes, with its ancient Roman amphitheatre. Montpellier and Nîmes are both lively towns well worth a visit and should not be missing from the programme, as should the Pont-du-Gard near Uzès.
And at weekends, you can browse around at one of the many flea markets (vide greniers) in the area.
Characterful villages: Anduze, Sauve, Quissac. All these villages have a cultural heritage, a market, festivities throughout the season and arts and crafts exhibitions. The Junas quarries and the famous jazz festival.
Family excursions: Train à vapeur des Cevennes in Anduze, bamboo plantation in Générargues, vélo rail in Thoiras, accrobranche, canoeing, paddling on the Vidourle in Sommières, Haribo candy museum in Uzès.
