The villa is located in the Minervois wine-growing region in the village of Beaufort, on the border of the Hérault and Aude departments in the Occitanie region (pronounced Oxcitanni – Languedoc-Roussillon until October 1, 2016) in southern France.
Historic Beaufort is nestled amidst the Minervois vineyards and has approximately 200 inhabitants. Above the village stands a chateau, which once served as the primary defense for the picturesque village of Minerve. The chateau was rebuilt in the 18th century, partly on the foundations of a medieval fortress.
Prehistoric excavations from the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman periods have been conducted nearby. An old Roman road, the "Cami Romieu," used by pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela, runs along the route. Part of the church of Saint Martin dates back to the 11th century.
The Beaufort area is fantastic for walking and cycling, and there are many special places to visit. Some more information about the region:
About 32 km to the east lies Narbonne, a city with approximately 50,000 inhabitants and a truly Mediterranean atmosphere. A little further away are the beautiful beaches of Narbonne Plage. Béziers is also worth a visit.
The lively village of Olonzac, with all amenities, is 3 km away. Every Tuesday morning, it hosts a large, colorful market. There's also a supermarket and charming shops, including delicatessens and authentic bakeries. A little further on (in Homps), you'll find a large supermarket. The beach is relatively close, and the surrounding area boasts many attractions. Cycling is wonderful in the area, for example, along the Canal du Midi. Culture, nature, cities, or simply the peace and quiet of home—it's all possible from this beautiful villa.
