The village of Bourbon-l'Archambault, located approximately 10 km away, was the capital of the Dukes of Bourbon in the 15th century. The castle of Bourbon l'Archambault was the centre of the Duchy of Bourbon, and was the basis of both the House of Bourbon and the old province of Bourbonnais.
Vieure
For a nice summer cool down, the swimming lake Plan d'eau de Vieure is located approximately 6 km away. You can also rent canoes and pedalos here for a day of water fun.
Every Sunday at 10 am there is a French/Dutch morning market in Vieure. With a bit of luck you will be lucky and the Shiels will play a few nice Irish songs.

Although not the largest city in the Allier, Moulins is traditionally the Capital of the Allier. The pleasant but small city centre is great for shopping. All the well-known French chain stores are represented in the outskirts of the city.

The Anne-de-Beaujeu museum houses collections of classical archaeology, medieval sculptures from the Bourbonnais, decorative art from the 18th century and paintings from the 19th century.
The Musée de l'illustration Jeunesse (MIJ), dedicated to book illustration, and specifically children's books, from the 19th century to the present day, opened in Moulins in 2005.
