Trips / Activities:
Although the French from the Gers take their time for everything, they manage quite well to organize many parties and other activities. La joie de vivre, tasty and good local food, sitting in the sun with a glass of wine and chatting are certainly not postponed. The region stands for fresh air, good food, good wine, sun and tranquility.
Recommended:
The non-specialized markets take place once a week in every small town and slightly larger villages.
At these markets you will find not only food, but also clothing, CDs, books, jewelry and other products. The market in France is not only the place to get your groceries cheaply, the market in this region is mainly intended for better quality fruit and vegetables. Everything from our own region.
Walking and cycling tours:
The Gers has been receiving pilgrims for decades and keeps this tradition alive. The paths leading to Santiago de Compostela are still used and well maintained. The locals also use these walking routes. These routes are also used as mountain bike routes. If you want to take a hike in the Gers it is good to know that there are three main paths, the historic pilgrim route, and two others that have less historical value.
For more information about walking and cycling in the Gers, take a look at www.randonnee.tourisme-gers.com.
Romans have settled in the Gers on a large scale, so you can now visit museums and ancient excavations.
Just 5 kilometers from the gites, you can visit an old Roman-Gallic villa, the ''villa gallo-romaine'', where historical events also take place in the summer. 15 kilometers away, in the town of Eauze, there is a museum that exhibits Roman objects, but also objects from the Middle Ages and the Stone Age.
The same city also hosts a Roman festival in the summer, during which Romans hold a chariot race; all of this, of course, combined with lavish meals and wine.
Fascinating old towns and villages:
The Gers has many. Perhaps the most impressive towns in the area are the fortified towns and villages such as the village of Larressingle. In Larressingle there is a museum, shops selling medieval products, art exhibitions by local artists and an area where visitors can experience the Middle Ages, including the battle.
The beautiful village of Montréal du Gers is 5 kilometers from your holiday home, where you can also visit Roman excavations.
