L’Ancien Presbytère de Troniac nestles on the slope of a valley on the western border of the wine-plateau of Cahors.
Today the small hamlet of only two farms is part of the village of Saux, but once it was an independent parish. Troniac was first mentioned in a document from 1279 when the abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Moissac granted the inhabitants certain rights.
The present farmhouse was built in the 19th century on earlier foundations with material from the original ruins. Traces of some of these medieval remains can still be seen: a transom with a crucifix above the kitchen door, the base of a Romanesque chapel and the ruin of an adjacent building, probably the vicarage or ‘presbytère’, hence the name of the domain: ‘L’Ancien Presbytère de Troniac’.
Nowadays, two Flemish Belgians live on the farm. One of the barns is converted into a painter’s studio, there’s an independent guest-room in the house and the stable is being renovated into a small, self-catering cottage.
The heated pool (5×10 metres) is situated close to both the guest-room and cottage and has a large southwest-facing terrace. The pool is heated and filtered by a salt-based system, so there are no traces of chlorine.
The domain of almost four hectares of garden, forest, field and meadow is a tranquil oasis that offers numerous quiet corners to enjoy peace and nature. No large-scale tourism here but authenticity, space, luxury and cosy atmosphere abound.
Our cottage is situated in a renovated freestanding barn at a small distance from the main house. It offers views over the valley and pool. Because of its position and the south-facing private terrace you can enjoy maximum privacy.
The cottage is self-catering and has a kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, 4-burner gas cooker, microwave, coffee machine, etc. …
In the living room you have satellite television, DVD player, and wireless internet.
In the bedroom you will enjoy a box spring (200÷180 cm.) and a bathroom with rain shower and toilet.
The heated pool and sun terrace are nearby and can be used freely.
The Quercy Blanc area is situated in the south-western Lot and is often called the ‘Tuscany of France’ thanks to its soft climate and hills covered with vineyards, cypresses and limestone. There are opportunities for walking and cycling to one’s heart’s content. This is a region where you’ll still find the authentic charm and peace of the French countryside.
The view is only interrupted by fortified limestone villages (bastides) that lie scattered through the landscape. Tournon d’Agenais, Montcuq, Montpezat, Montflanquin and Lauzerte are nearby and are certainly worth a visit. Most of these villages offer a charming weekly market. There are also regular antique and flea markets as well.
In addition, there are excursions to the picturesque valley of the Lot where most of the famous Cahors vineyards are situated. Saux has six vineyards of which Domaine d’Homs is our neighbour. Troniac offers a direct view over these vineyards.
The historical cities of Villeneuve sur Lot, Cahors, Montauban, Moissac en Agen are 30 to 40 km. away. Also Toulouse is within easy reach by motorway (+/-1h15) for a day trip. The castles and tourist highlights of the Dordogne are an hour to the north and those of the eastern Lot are less than an hour’s journey.
There are restaurants galore, from simple snacks and ‘routiers’ to Michelin star gourmet restaurants.
