Interior

Domain Pouchou is located on a hill with a view over the valley. The silence is indescribable and is best translated by the French saying: "le bruit du silence".

PETIT POUCHOU is the cottage for four persons and two bedrooms.

Behind the red door of 'Petit Pouchou' there is an attractive, large, well-equipped kitchen and a cellar. Upstairs there is a romantic, cozy living room with an authentic fireplace, where you can relax even in winter. Upstairs is also the first bedroom, the bathroom with large walk-in shower and separate toilet. The top floor is then accessible by a narrow staircase, where there is a second, spacious bedroom. This bedroom is especially suitable for children and young adults, because of the stairs and because adults cannot stand upright everywhere.

The beds are made upon arrival!

Because the holiday home is built on a hill, you can walk directly outside from both the kitchen (downstairs) and the living room (upstairs). Below, the house is located in the courtyard that is enclosed by the owner's home and the large tobacco barn. For privacy you can use your own terrace located upstairs, directly accessible from the living room. There is also a private covered terrace downstairs, with its own barbecue and view over the valley.

The swimming pool is located a little further from the house. A wonderful place with a beautiful view over the valley and where you can enjoy a good book and a dip in the water. People imagine themselves as god here in France. The swimming pool is shared with other guests, and we, the residents of Pouchou, also use it every now and then.

Further on the site, in a quiet spot in the forest, is a plateau that can be used for yoga or meditation. To unwind, this is the right place.

Children have also been taken into consideration. On the Pouchou grounds, children can use a trampoline (with protective net), a tree house, a swing and a cable car. For the safety of the little ones, the terraces (courtyard) can be closed. This is to prevent children who cannot yet swim from going to the pool independently. There is a stair gate in the top bedroom of the gîte.

Good to know also:

* When renting Petit Pouchou for only two people (one bedroom), there is a discount on the price.

* There is a second holiday home on the Pouchou site, Pantouze, which is suitable for two people.

* We have our own website: pouchou.fr

Surroundings

Pouchou is the name of the domain and is located in the village of Besse, which has 160 inhabitants. Besse has a beautiful church from 1200 that is worth a visit. Daily shopping can be done in both Cazals and Villefranche du Perigord.

A stay in Pouchou is attractive for those who love nature, tranquility, walking and a visit to picturesque villages and markets. There are countless characteristic villages to visit around Besse, where you can't help but suspect that Anton Pieck got his inspiration here. The characteristic villages and towns such as Monpazier, Sarlat, Belves and Domme, to name a few, are definitely recommended. Or what about the prehistoric caves with old wall drawings and beautiful stalactites. In addition to the many studios that exist here, art lovers should certainly also visit the museum of the famous artist Zadkin, in the town of Les Arques, which is not far away. The castles in the area are also worth a visit. There are also beautiful walking routes for hikers that are well plotted and marked. For children, there is a climbing forest nearby where climbing routes have been mapped out at different levels for different ages. And finally, not to be forgotten: Pouchou is located exactly between the two major rivers, the Dordogne and the Lot, where you can view the country from a completely different perspective from a canoe.

In the months of July and August there is the opportunity to visit a 'marché gourmande' or a 'marché des producteurs' in various places in the area. In Besse this is every Friday evening. This is worth it for the true lover of the food of this region: you can put together your own food from the region that is offered from various stalls, a true experience. The Perigord Noir is a rich area when it comes to food. The region is best known for its nuts, chestnuts, truffles, cèpes (mushrooms), honey-tasting strawberries, and duck dishes such as Magret de Canard and Confit de Canard, and the more and more we found beautiful dishes on the menu for vegetarians. .

And of course there is no shortage of 'good' wine in this region. Pouchou is located exactly between the Bergerac wine that is praised by many and the Cahors wine that has earned more and more respect in recent years. The first wineries where you can taste on location are about twenty minutes away (the Cahors wines). For the Bergerac wines you should expect about a 45-minute drive.
