Avignon is a sumptuous city that will undoubtedly charm you... Just like Isle-sur-la-Sorgues, Fontaine de Vaucluse, the villages of the Lubéron, the Alpilles with Les Baux de Provence and Saint Rémy, Nîmes, the Camargue... and the sea with Les Saintes Maries de la mer or La Grande Motte and its distinctive architecture (50mn). A visit to the Salins du Midi at Aigues Morte is a great 60-minute experience.
The Pont du Gard is a must-see site (30mn from the house and canoeing under the bridge)...an opportunity to visit the beautiful nearby town of Uzès...
Arles is a city rich in history, offering an exceptional heritage (approx. 45 mins.), and Tarascon and its history is on the way.
For children, there's the Spirou amusement park and the Wave Island water park in Monteux, 45 minutes away.
10 minutes from the house, in the direction of Rochefort du Gard, you'll find an unexpected place that was built by Charlemagne: the “Sanctuaire Notre Dame”. Little known... You'll need to do the Way of the Cross, and once you're at the top, look for the footpath that will take you all the way around the sanctuary on foot. Access to the chapel is free, and you'll discover an astonishing room of ex votos dating from the Middle Ages to the present day... I suggest you go to reception and ask for a visit, as there is an “echo room” in the sanctuary, and it's rather rare...
I wish you many wonderful discoveries and walks.
