Discover Barjac, the Ardèche and the Gard
The villa is situated in the hills of Barjac, a charming historic village in the Gard department of Occitanie, close to the Ardèche. Located between the spectacular Ardèche Gorges and Cèze Gorges, Barjac is an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of southern France. The surrounding countryside is characterised by Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards, green hills, rivers and authentic French villages.
Barjac’s historic centre is known for its Renaissance heritage, cobbled streets, old town houses, attractive squares and château. The village also offers shops, restaurants and everyday amenities. Twice a year, Barjac hosts its renowned international antiques and flea market.
Nature lovers will find plenty to explore. The Ardèche Gorges and Cèze Gorges offer excellent opportunities for hiking, cycling, swimming and canoeing. Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and the famous natural Pont d’Arc are also within easy reach. With its rivers, limestone cliffs and Mediterranean landscapes, the area is ideal for both active holidays and relaxing stays surrounded by nature.
Another highlight is the Grand Site de l’Aven d’Orgnac, approximately 8 km from Barjac, where visitors can explore an impressive cave system and the Cité de la Préhistoire. The nearby Chauvet 2 Cave, featuring reproductions of the world-famous prehistoric cave paintings, is another fascinating attraction in the Ardèche.
A holiday in Barjac therefore offers an excellent combination of the Gard, Occitanie and the Ardèche, with historic villages, local markets, regional gastronomy, spectacular natural scenery and plenty of opportunities for day trips and outdoor activities.
