In the south of the Tarn lies our village Cahuzac, in a hilly landscape at the foot of the nature reserve "la Montagne Noire" (= the Black Mountain).
In the immediate vicinity there are the small idyllic villages and towns with numerous restaurants and shops. Like Sorèze (1,5 mi) with its Abbey-school dating from the 12the century located in a historic site.
Revel (4 mi) with its beautiful old wooden hall surmounted by a belfry, offers weekly shade to a market that is described as one of the 100 most beautiful markets of France.
Something further away are the larger tourist towns Carcassonne (27 mi), Toulouse (34 mi) and Albi (37 mi), ideal for a day trip.
Nearby is the lake of Saint-Ferréol (4 mi) with a dike and dam, that provides the "Canal du Midi" from water and who is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. Lac St-Ferréol is a place of great beaty with a multitude of activities (swimming under surveillance rescue, pedal boats, mini-golf, horseback riding, walking, museum visit,...)
Or you can simply enjoy one of the many terraces that the environment is rich. A pick-nick in the schade of the pine trees is a nice alternative to the numerous restaurants and tea rooms.
La Montagne Noire (= the Black Mountain) is a part of the regional Park of the Haut-Languedoc. It's a mountain range located on the southwestern end of the Massif Central and is a true paradise for sports enthusiasts in every season: mountain bike, cycle racing, speleology, parapounting or a strong hiking tour.
Or do you prefer to slow down with a relaxing bike ride or walk in the rolling landscape along the sunflower fields, looking for unspoiled picturesque villages with their typical southern churches.
You can also enjoy the tranquility of the castle estate and relax by your own heated swimming pool, enjoying a barbecue and a glass of fine wine.
Go deer watching in the garden and enjoy your evening of a clear starry sky with a chorus of countless cicadas and owls in the background.
